As many companies scramble to compensate for the Facebook Timeline layout that recently changed the layout of the Facebook brand page, other companies are sitting back and watching the engagement on their already-switched pages grow. According to a recent story in Mashable, researcher Simply Measured proved that engagement per post and fan engagement increased with the new Timeline layout. In fact, Toyota saw a 156% change in engagement per post and Livestrong saw the biggest increase with 161%. In other words, the Timeline layout has the ability to make a difference for a company, but only if done correctly.
Some Facebook Timeline brand pages such as Old Spice and Target did see a negative effect due to the timeline. There are many different reasons this could have happened, but many are putting the blame on the cover photo. The cover photo is the first thing visitors see when they visit a brand page, so you don’t want the photo to be too overwhelming.
